The Prince Albert Garden Club elected a new committee at its AGM on 3 June held at outgoing Chair, Michael Upton’s Prince Albert Garden Guest House. Sue Goosen is the new Chairperson, with Shireen Reid as her deputy. Gill Hall will serve as Treasurer and Dawn Viljoen continues as Secretary. Neil Dixon and Linda Jaquet are the additional committee members.
The committee has drafted a programme for the remainder of the year. The annual garden competition will be held as planned in August, while the Oudtshoorn Garden Club’s scheduled visit to Prince Albert will take place in the second half of 2009. There are also plans to visit nurseries in Oudtshoorn and Leeu-Gamka, host interesting guest speakers and talks and hold a fundraising Garden Sale towards the end of the year. Notices about upcoming meetings and events will be posted around town and placed in the Friend.
African Relish, the recreational cooking school on Church Street, is the venue for the Club’s meeting on 1 July at 15h00. Ann Kerr will provide a tour of the school’s flower, herb and vegetable gardens and talk about her vision and philosophy in planning and planting the gardens. This will be followed by refreshments courtesy of African Relish! Club members will be charged a fee of R5 and guests, R10; those present will have the chance of winning an interesting plant in a lucky draw.
The Garden Club’s annual membership fee (R30) is now due. Whether you are an experienced gardener or do not know a euphorbia from an aspidistra, why not come along and join the Club.
Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month, usually at 15h00, at different venues in and around Prince Albert.
