A Ruby Wedding Anniversary treat of a trip on the Blue Train provided a wonderful opportunity for Lin and Jack Davies to visit Prince Albert. After their luxurious experience they hired a car in Cape Town and came to the village for Lin to do some family research. Last month’s Prince Albert Friend featured a story by Lin’s dad Terence Baillie: Of Bees and Baboons. Terence lived here in the 1920’s with his Ouma Isabella van der Hoven.
Margrieta Engelbrecht at the NG Kerkkantoor was able to find Isabella’s confirmation records from 1911 and to give Lin some information about Rosendal, the family farm. The Davies also spent time in the NG Kerk, where Terence’s father’s funeral was held all those years ago.
They were able to buy a copy of the Friend, just collated and folded, as they left for Cape Town and their trip back to Johannesburg and have since had six more copies posted to them for all the family. We look forward to their future visits to Prince Albert.
